Next opposition conclave in Delhi on Feb 22; Amaravati rally in March

Vijayawada: Non-BJP political parties will hold their next conclave in Delhi on February 26 to discuss the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) for a national-level alliance ahead of the general elections. According to sources, Kejriwal and Naidu telephoned the leaders of some other non-BJP parties including West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. The parties will also meet in Amaravati in the first week of March. Mamata, Kejriwal and former J&K chief minister Farooq Abdullah are likely to attend the meeting. The responsibility of the CMP will be handed over to Congress president Rahul Gandhi.The decisions were taken during a meeting between chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Monday.

The proposed meeting on February 26 will discuss the CMP to take on the BJP at the hustings.Kejriwal drove straight to Amaravati to meet Naidu after landing at the city airport. The two leaders were closeted for a little more than two hours. According to sources, Kejriwal and Naidu telephoned the leaders of some other non-BJP parties including West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. It was decided to hand over the responsibility of framing the CMP to Rahul Gandhi.The exact date of the proposed meeting in Amaravati will be decided after discussing with leaders of other political parties. Mamata, Kejriwal and former J&K chief minister Farooq Abdullah are likely to attend the meeting. People from Guntur and Krishna districts will be mobilised for the success of the Amaravati conclave.Sources said Kejriwal and Naidu also discussed the political scenario at the national level, including the terrorist attack in J&K in which 42 CRPF jawans were martyred. The two leaders reportedly felt that the BJP is trying to derive political mileage out of the terror attack.Naidu had called Kejriwal, who sat on a day’s dharna in Delhi, last week. Kejriwal too supported Naidu’s SCS fight in Delhi earlier this month.The two leaders also discussed the political strategy to be adopted for a broad alliance at the national level to defeat the BJP. Earlier, Kejriwal was received at the airport by irrigation minister D Umamaheswara Rao.
