Narasaraopet: Parched paddy fields, dried up borewells and lack of employment opportunities in the land of major irrigation project and mineral wealth are factors, which will play a major role in deciding the fate of Lok Sabha candidates in Narasaraopet.Drought has hit nearly 10 lakh acres as the government could not release water for paddy cultivation for four successive years.Anger among farmers is visible. They are blaming MLAs and MPs for failing to get water despite Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir reaching full level during the last monsoon.Meanwhile, both Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSR Congress (YSRC) are making all efforts to reach out to the masses. TDP is banking heavily on the Kamma community, but a split with the Jana Sena is worrying the party as the constituency has a considerable Kapu population.Unrest among other communities, particularly Vysya and the BCs are going to trouble TDP as well. While it is yet to finalise its candidate, YSRC’s Lavu Srikrishnadevarayalu has visited most areas of the constituency last month. “Our focus is only on development. Giving drinking water to all villages through water grid project and ensuring water to all farm lands is our priority,” Srikrishnadevarayalu told TOI. He said they will establish a 300-bed hospital in Gurazala and open at least two schools in each mandal.Vinukonda MLA and TDP district unit president GV Anjaneyulu, however, remained upbeat. “All sections of the society are happy. We are going to win the seat without any doubt,” he said.
