Navy chief to de-brief on exercise Tropex on Monday

Visakhapatnam: The de-briefing session of the Theatre Level Readiness and Operational Exercise ( TROPEX ) of the Indian Navy, will be held today in Kochi. Chief of naval staff Admiral, Sunil Lanba will review the conduct of the exercise and assess the operational preparedness.About 60 ships, 12 Indian Coast Guard ships and 60 aircraft were part of the Tropex’19. This was followed by the largest Coastal Defence Exercise code named Sea Vigil, on January 22 and 23 with participation of all 13 coastal states and Union Territories along with all maritime stakeholders. The lessons learnt from the exercise will provide planners accurate assessments to fine-tune force structuring requirements, operational logistics and also material and training imperatives.Tropex exercise had commenced on January 19 and was supposed to be terminated by March 10. However, the terrorist attack on the CRPF convoy in Pulwama on February 14, led to a rapid redeployment of the Indian Navy for operations in the North Arabian sea.It had commenced with Tri-services amphibious exercise in Andaman and Nicobar islands with participation of the Army and the Air Force.

During the course of the exercise, the naval forces had to be re-deployed in strategic areas of the sea, due to the mounting tensions between India and Pakistan, since last month.Chief of the Naval Staff will have a long review of Tropex’19 with all operational commanders, aiming to examine the conduct of the exercise and to assess the operational preparedness of the Indian Navy.A realistic audit of the Indian Navy’s deployment philosophy and fighting capability would also be undertaken. The lessons learnt from the exercise will provide planners accurate assessments to fine-tune force structuring requirements, operational logistics and also material and training imperatives.Tropex exercise had commenced on January 19 and was supposed to be terminated by March 10.
