Kodela Sivaprasada Rao hopes to break Speaker’s jinx in polls

GUNTUR: The six-time legislator Kodela Sivaprasada Rao is hoping to script history by winning this round of assembly contest.Only a few speakers have won elections in the past. Except for Yanamala Ramakrishunudu, no other speaker has won election after completing the term as speaker. He was a pioneer in launching several mega projects including modernization of burial grounds and construction of individual toilets in all households.Citing past history, the party leadership wanted Kodela to contest Lok Sabha elections. Kodela is determined to erase such blind beliefs as he believes that his work will ensure his victory.He has developed Sattenapalle constituency with over Rs 1,000 crore projects. He, however, lost the election in 2009 and opted out of contesting direct elections.

His strong followers exerted pressure on him at least to shift to Narasaraopet to beat the odds.“I have been with the people for the past five years. I am confident of winning the election with more than 20000 majority,” Dr Kodela said.Yanamala Ramakrishnudu is one exception among the losers from speakers as he won 1999 and 2004 assembly elections even after serving as speaker between 1995-99.He was the speaker of the TDP government after dethroning NTR from power. He also won 1983, 1985, 1989 and 94 elections in a row. He, however, lost the election in 2009 and opted out of contesting direct elections. He is presently member of legislative council and finance minister in Naidu’s cabinet.
