GUNTUR: The Election Commission is scrutinizing Guntur West assembly segment candidate Thota Chandrasekhar’s poll management costs after complaints about high spending by the Jana Sena candidate’s aides.Sources said the observers have gathered some evidence about suspicious money transactions from close friends and associates of Chandrasekhar in the last week. The authorities got a tip-off on the Jana Sena candidate striking a big deal with a former TDP leader, the sources further added.According to information, the EC expenditure observers have asked bankers and I-T sleuths to keep a close watch on all bank accounts of Chandrasekhar’s firms, aides and associates. The I-T department was examining real estate registrations carried out by those political leaders who are handling Chandrasekhar’s campaign.Sources said the EC officials have come to a conclusion that Chandrasekhar is one of the candidates in the district who is expected to spend a lot to win elections. Sources said that EC officials will focus on Chandrasekhar’s camp after seeing him handling Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan’s public meetings in the last two months.Chandrasekhar is moving among the public without making any noise. His aides are said to be involved in striking big deals behind closed doors and roping in leaders from rival political parties.Although leaders switching parties has become a common affair across the state, most of them are joining either TDP or YSR Congress.Jana Sena has, however, attracted some strong leaders from rival camps in Guntur which has prompted the EC to suspect that big money was involved. “We have not taken any action as of now. We are only looking into some suspicious cash transactions of the aides of a key political leader in the city,” said an EC observer.
