Tirupati: Two class ten students were killed and seven others, including the driver, suffered severe injuries in a road accident at Kalicherla hamlet of Peddamandyam mandal in Chittoor district on Monday. The car in which they were travelling turned turtle near the Gelasamvari palle bus stop.According to Peddamandyam SI M Suresh Babu, around eight students, all hailing from Kalicherla hamlet were travelling in a Qualis car to reach their examination centre at Peddamandyam when the accident occurred.The vehicle turned turtle after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, when it titled towards the right while overtaking another vehicle.The vehicle is said to be an election campaigning vehicle of the Jana Sena and was giving a lift to students, who requested the driver on their way to the bus stop.The deceased were identified as Srinivasulu (15) and Ramachandra (15). On learning of the accident, the police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a government hospital at Madanapalli. While Srinivasulu died on the spot, his classmate Ramachandra died while being shifted to the hospital in a police vehicle.The injured students and driver were later shifted to Ruia and SVIMS hospital in Tirupati for better treatment. The police have registered a case and are investigating the exact reason for the accident.Meanwhile, district collector PS Pradyumna expressed shock over the accident and directed concerned education, medical and health officers to immediately reach the hospital to ensure better treatment of the injured.The collector also asked the police to file a case against the driver. The collector also advised students to start their journey to the examination centres early and reach safely without any hurry.
