Vijayawada: Locking horns with the Election Commission (EC), the state government on Wednesday cancelled the transfer of director general (intelligence), A B Venkateswara Rao.On Tuesday, the government had received orders from the EC to transfer A B Venkateswara Rao, Kadapa SP Rahul Dev Sharma and Srikakulam SP A Venkata Ratnam, and then issued GO 716 transferring the three officials.On Wednesday, the government issued GO 720, cancelling the order issued by it earlier.The GO 720, however, did not mention the transfer of director general (intelligence) A B Venkateswara Rao.The state government took a step back on the EC’s orders by not only cancelling the GO but also challenging the EC decision in the high court.To back its latest order, the government issued another GO 721 notifying the officers designated for poll duties under Section 28A of Representation of People Act.
