Guntur: In a rare feat, around 506 children from municipal schools in the state cleared the national level eligibility test to secure scholarship under National Means cum Merit Scholarship ( NMMS ). The results of the national entrance were released late on Wednesday night. A student of PMC high school in Guntur city, K Rohini Priyamvada was the topper from the state.The director of municipal administration, K Kannababu had set special focus on NMMS almost six months ago and had asked all municipal commissioners to provide additional training to students so that they achieve better ranks in the test. He appointed special officers to track the progress of the students and personally reviewed the preparation directly with principals of schools. “It is a big achievement for our children. It is going to help them both financially and academically as it gives them confidence of facing national level entrance examinations,” Kannababu said.He said that municipal schools have the achievement is due to the dedication of the teachers and the commitment of the students. Kannababu added that they have only extended moral support and provided required material support to students. “We noticed municipal schools achieving poor results in such tests a year ago and took corrective measures. We have appointed special teachers to provide coaching to the meritorius students,” he said.Interestingly, municipal students were among toppers in all the districts. Around 5,000 students from municipal schools appeared the exam held on November 10.
