Ram Gopal Varma vents his ire as Lakshmirsquos NTR draws crowds

HYDERABAD: Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Lakshmi’s NTR’ released to packed houses in Telangana on Friday. After NTR distances himself from his son-in-law for opposing Parvathi’s entry into his life, there’s more drama once he wins the 1984 polls. Whoever dubbed for the ‘Babu’ character gets the voice perfect.The film shows NTR, who was down and depressed after the defeat in 1989 polls, reviving his spirit once Parvathi enters his life. Interestingly, the first title that came on the screen was ‘special thanks to Balakrishna’, leaving the audience in splits. There was more reasons for the audience to break into peels of laughter whenever Balakrishna’s character enters the screen, on and off, in his inimitable style.

HYDERABAD: Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Lakshmi’s NTR’ released to packed houses in Telangana on Friday. The film, however, did not hit the screens in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh after the high court gave a stay on its release.The filmmaker, in a Facebook post, said he is cursing the ‘backstabber director’ for preventing people of AP from watching a movie based on the life an actor who went on to become its chief minister. “May you lose the elections,” he said in his FB post.The film made by RGV , who has been building up the tempo, revolves around former AP chief minister NT Rama Rao’s life from the time Lakshmi Parvathi enters his life, how it annoys NTR’s family and his son-in-law who is referred to as ‘Babu.’ Except for Parvathi and NTR, other characters were given names with slight variations. No guessing as to who the characters were. Whoever dubbed for the ‘Babu’ character gets the voice perfect.The film shows NTR, who was down and depressed after the defeat in 1989 polls, reviving his spirit once Parvathi enters his life. She approaches NTR to write his biography. Interestingly, the first title that came on the screen was ‘special thanks to Balakrishna’, leaving the audience in splits. There was more reasons for the audience to break into peels of laughter whenever Balakrishna’s character enters the screen, on and off, in his inimitable style. And at all times, there were shouts of ‘Jai Balayya’ from the film buffs.Babu is shown referring to Parvathi as ‘madam.’ Parvathi always refers to NTR as ‘swamy’, eulogising him as a lord, in the film. After NTR distances himself from his son-in-law for opposing Parvathi’s entry into his life, there’s more drama once he wins the 1984 polls.
