Tenders were called more than two years ago to build protection walls on all hills covering the last house on each street, but they have evoked no response with contractors keeping away. Delay in release of funds by the civic body seems to be the reason. In fact, contractors are not coming forward to take up any other developmental works sanctioned under general funds as the release of money is always allegedly delayed. Only projects taken up under SC/ST sub- plan funds are finding takers. “Financial issues are the major hurdle for the project. We have also sought a detailed project report from the corporation authorities but it has not materialised till date,” Mayor Koneru Sridhar told The Hindu. Stop gap measures “However, in some hilly areas, corporators ensured construction of protection walls in vulnerable stretches in their respective divisions,” he said. “When a mishap occurs, elected representatives to rush to the spot and make promises of building protect the wall.
