more-in The civic body employees and the municipal council celebrated the 71st Independence Day in the premises of the VMC office on Tuesday. Mayor Koneru Sridhar unfurled the tri-colour marking the beginning of the celebrations. Later addressing the gathering, Mr. Sridhar listed out the achievements of the Corporation in the past three years and said many more development works would be taken up. Municipal Commissioner J. Nivas said the corporation was raising funds from all available sources for the development work. He said ?2 crore had been sourced from the district tourism funds through the Collector for the development of the Bandar Canal and ?80 lakh for the development of the pushkar ghats. S everal other facilities like smart bins, smart electric autos for garbage transportation and others had been arranged. As part of the programme, 30 persons were given compassionate appointments following the death of their relatives. About 175 employees were rewarded for best performance. Municipal school students entertained the gathering with cultural programmes. Meanwhile, many other government offices and establishments also celebrated the day by hoisting the national flag in their respective premises.
