more-in For the eight yoga students of V.M. Ranga Municipal School at Krishnalanka, it was an all-new experience as they took part in a series of yoga demonstrations in Sri Lanka from August 6 to 12. As many as 200 young practitioners were short-listed from the country and these eight students took part in the cultural festival at Sri Lanka organised by the Indian High Commissioner, said V.V. Rama Rao, general secretary of Yoga Association of Andhra Pradesh, here on Thursday. He said the expenditure of the trip was borne by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. “It was their maiden trip and they were thrilled to perform in front the Lankan audience under the supervision of yoga teacher G. Suryachandra Kumari. They performed both traditional and artistic yoga along with music,” he added. Mr. Rao said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had granted ?5 lakh to the talented Nellore-based yoga student Josthana to enable her to take part in premier international events. He said the 42nd Andhra Pradesh yoga competitions will be held at Tirupati from September 9 to 11. “The selected AP teams will take part in the national competitions scheduled to be held at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh,” he pointed out. Mr. Rao said the Krishna District Yoga Association will stage selection trials to pick the district teams for the Tirupati meet on August 19 at Patamata indoor stadium. “Apart from the regular annual summer camps, the association is celebrating World Yoga Day on June 21 in a grand manner promoting the yoga concept among the masses,” he added.
