Andhra Pradesh to set up industrial corridor development Authority

VIJAYWADA: If all goes well, a new Andhra Pradesh Industrial Corridor Development Authority (APICDA) will be in place. The authority will look into development of nodes as part of the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) and Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC). The government on Tuesday introduced a new Bill pertaining to development of industrial corridors in various places across the state. This will be the nodal body to implement the industrial corridor projects with the headquarters at the new capital Amaravati. Officials said the authority, which will be loosely formed on the lines of Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), will take up developing master plans in nodes.

The government on Tuesday introduced a new Bill pertaining to development of industrial corridors in various places across the state. The chief minister will head the new authority and the minister for industries minister will be the member-secretary.Official sources said an executive committee will be constituted soon. A commissioner (from the All-India Services cadre) will be appointed as the nodal officer to take care of the APICDA's activitities and oversee its functioning. The authority will look into development of nodes as part of the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) and Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC). Once the authority acquires land from a local authority or civic body, the said piece of land will be transferred to it. It will take up the planning, development, operation, maintenance, management and regulartion of industrial corridors in the state.Sources said the main functions of the board is procure, acquire and have landholdings within the node. Officials said the authority, which will be loosely formed on the lines of Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), will take up developing master plans in nodes. Once the authority is formed, it will facilitate investments. It can also finance from market, levy user charges directly or indirectly through any private sector participant. The authority will also have powers to float special purpose vehicles.
