VISAKHAPATNAM: The Waltair division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) announced that it would operate a number of summer special trains from and via Visakhapatnam to various places across the country with a view to clearing the extra rush of passengers owing to the summer holidays for students.According to railway sources, at least 16 special trains would be running via Vizag railway station till June.The number of special trains may even increase to 20 depending on the demand, railway sources said.A senior railway official said the main reason behind running the special trains is to meet the rush of passengers as schools would be closed for summer holidays and there would be a huge spurt in demand for destinations like Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru via Vijayawada.Visakhapatnam railway station's per day footfall is around 60,000 on normal days and it is likely to touch 80,000 to 90,000 during the holiday season, railway sources said.In fact, the railways is already running nearly a dozen special trains to these places, particularly to Hyderabad.
