Private company to study cause behind kidney failure

VISAKHAPATNAM: NephroPlus, a kidney dialysis provider from Hyderabad, which also has a private partnership project with AP government, is now mulling over to study the reasons behind the kidney problems, particularly in Uddanam area of the Srikakulam district.The company has already provided free service to nearly 5,000 patients across the state, of which around 20 per cent have been from Uddanam since August 2016.Speaking to TOI, NephroPlus founder Vuppala Vikram said that so far they provided dialysis services to the people across the country including AP who have suffered from kidney problems.“We are currently planning to study the reasons behind the kidney failures from our side. It is still at the proposal level and the final decision is yet to be taken,” Vikram said.He said that Uddanam in Srikakulam district is one area from where many cases of renal failure have been reported over the decade for reasons which have not been identified and analysed yet despite of several studies by experts from various places and countries.“From our side, we have also contributed by setting up six dialysis centres in Srikakulam district including one at Srikakulam town and others nearby Uddanam,” Vikram added.While talking about the private partnership project with AP government, Vikram said, “We started the service from August 2016, covering 26 hospitals in the Andhra Pradesh , including 8 teaching hospitals,” Vikram added.The company provides dialysis at Rs 1,000 per session to the patients which are later reimbursed by the government under the Arogya Sri scheme.Vikram also added that nearly 2.5 lakh dialysis for 5,000 patients across the state has been done by his company under the project.
