Live-in partner held for ‘killing’ woman

The accused strangled the woman to death before setting her body afire as the latter was disapproved of him marrying another girl, the police said. The murder mystery of the woman whose partly burnt body was found on the Kothapalem –Narava road near Gopalapatnam on May 3 was solved with the arrest of her live-in partner on Saturday evening. Sujata used to stay in a working women’s hostel before she moved with Satish to a rented house at Baji Junction in 2016.

Sujata (32) from Narsaraopeta of Guntur district had married a man from Nellore district in 2004 and have two sons. She divorced her husband following disputes in 2011 and came to the city. Sujata befriended R. Satish (27) from Timiram village in Devarapalli mandal and they ended as live-in partners. Satish opened a photo studio at NAD Kotha Road Junction. Sujata used to stay in a working women’s hostel before she moved with Satish to a rented house at Baji Junction in 2016. Recently, Satish told Sujata that he wanted to marry another girl to which she did not agree. Both used to quarrel over the issue. Sujata even went to Satish’s village and sought justice from the elders claiming that she tied knots with Satish at Simhachalam temple. After this, Sujata went back to the hostel. Satish decided to kill Sujata and hatched a plan. On May 3, Satish picked up Sujata for a movie from her hostel at 7 p.m. “After the movie, Satish took Sujata to an isolated place near the Railway Layout and strangled her to death with a nylon rope. In his bid to destroy the evidence, he doused her body with the petrol from the fuel tank of his bike before setting it afire,” DCP (L & O), South Zone, T. Ravi Kumar Murthy told the media on Sunday. CCTV footage Special teams examined the footage of the CCTV installed at a school nearby the sport where the body of Sujata was found. Her relatives identified Sujata’s ornaments recovered from the scene of crime. “Satish confessed to have committed the murder during interrogation, the DCP said.
