Close shave for 40 deputy collectors as Vizag-bound train catches fire in Madhya Pradesh

Train services were disrupted with several trains put to halt at various stations for clearing the tracks. Gwalior SP Navneet Bhasin told TOI that all passengers including the deputy collectors are safe.Incident took place near Birla Nagar railway station – located 2 km away from the Gwalior, where passengers were shifted to another train after rescue operations. Two coaches were gutted in the incident, which reportedly, broke out due to a short circuit.

Railway PRO Manoj Kumar was later quoted by a section of media saying a high-tension wire fell on the train resulting in the blaze starting from B6 and B7 bogies.Panicked passengers used fire extinguishers available in the coaches, but in vein. Video footage showed fire engulfing the doors and adjacent windows of the affected coaches. Gwalior SP Navneet Bhasin told TOI that all passengers including the deputy collectors are safe.Incident took place near Birla Nagar railway station – located 2 km away from the Gwalior, where passengers were shifted to another train after rescue operations. Footages of fire engulfing doors and windows of the coaches went viral on social media immediately after the incident.Fire started in the B6 coach atand it later spread to the adjoining B7 coach. All passengers moved out quickly as the train was on halt. Fifteen fire brigade vehicles were used to douse the fire.Passengers have reported huge loss of their properties including cash and ornaments. Deputy collectors were returning from a training. Affected coaches were detached.Inquiry has been orded by the ministry of railways. Senior officials from Jhansi reached the spot for inspection.Alternative arrangements were made for the rescued passengers. Train services were disrupted with several trains put to halt at various stations for clearing the tracks. Railway has released emergency numbers: 1322, 1800111189 for passenger/train related information.
