‘Suspicious death’ turns out to be a murder

And based on probe and confession of the suspects, the police have arrested two persons, including a woman for killing a person. Giving the details of the case, Joint Commissioner of Police (Zone-II) T. Ravi Kumar Murthy (DCP Zone-II) said that on May 18, one Konda Appanna (32) died after taking a few swigs of liquor that he was consuming with his father Konda Nookaraju at their house in Kurmannapalem. While Appanna died on the spot, Nookaraju was found in an unconscious state and is still said to be in a critical condition at a hospital. Both were daily wage labourers. “After we visited the scene of crime, we sensed that something was wrong. And we realised that Appanna’s wife K Nagamani (27) was reportedly in a relationship with one Varadhi Kumar (22), a hunter,” said Mr. Ravi Kumar Murthy. Appanna reportedly knew about the affair and even several panchayats were held to settle the issue. In a bid to eliminate Appanna and his father, Nagamani and Varadhi allegedly laced the liquor with cyanide. Cyanide procured from jeweller “Earlier, Varadhi and Nagamani would lace the food of the father-son duo with sleeping pills when they planned to meet. But, they finally decided to get rid of them,” said ACP J. Rama Mohan Rao. According to the Joint Commissioner, Varadhi procured cyanide from a jeweller. “Belief has it that consuming the meat of monitor lizards cure many ailments and taking advantage of this, Varadhi, who is a hunter, caught a monitor lizard and allegedly exchanged it for a small quantity of cyanide, which he mixed with the drink,” said Mr. Ravi Kumar Murthy. The liquor bottle, glasses and the viscera sample of the deceased have been sent to FSL Hyderabad.
