City in grip of sultry spell again as monsoon takes a week-long break

Visakhapatnam: Vizagites will have to bear hot and dry weather for the next one week as the southwest monsoon , which hit the state a week ago, takes a break. IMD director (forecast) K Naga Ratna said, break in monsoon takes place owing to reasons, such as lack of active weather systems over Bay of Bengal. But, occasional isolated thunderstorms at are not ruled out.”Reddy said, monsoon this year will be normal. IMD officials said, rainfall is expected to improve in July and August. Till then Visakhapatnam would receive light showers.

Temperature are expected to soar beyond the normal levels.According to officials from the Andhra Pradesh State Development Planning Society (APSDPS), the official weather wing of the state government, many areas registered maximum temperatures higher than 40 degree Celsius in the last two days owing to the weaking of monsoon currents.With 41.57 degrees Celsius Nelivada village of Bondapalli mandal of Vizianagaram district registered the state’s highest maximum temperature, followed by Narsaraopeta in Guntur district with 41.4 degree Celsius on Friday.While 435 areas across the state registered temperatures higher than 35 degree Celsius, two areas experienced temperatures highers than 40 degree Celsius on Friday.Apart from Rayalaseema, the south and north coastal districts also witnessed dry weather conditions.India Meteorological Department (IMD) director YK Reddy said “The monsoon is expected to be weak or dry for the next one week in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. But, occasional isolated thunderstorms at are not ruled out.”Reddy said, monsoon this year will be normal. IMD officials said, rainfall is expected to improve in July and August.
