Trekkers to explore ancient Madhavdhara staircases tomorrow

The striking feature of the temple is the flight of staircases that would serve the pilgrims as a short-cut way to the famous Narasimhaswamy temple at Simhachalam. They will have to wear full sleeve clothes, suitable walking shoes and cap and also carry water bottles with them.”Some ancient inscriptions, though faded, have been discovered on some staircases that would be covered by the trekkers . The participants should neither throw litters there nor do anything that would affect the natural environment.

VISAKHAPATNAM: A group of around 30 people from various organisations are all geared up for an experience of a lifetime on Sunday when they will trek through the 900-year-old rickety staircases connecting the ancient Madhavdhara Swamy temple with the Simhachalam temple.The three km long trekking through dense foliage and crumbling staircases, to be organised by Junior Chamber International (JCI), will start at 6 am from Madhavdhara Swamy temple. It is open to everyone aged above 10 years.V Chetan, one of the organisers said, “It is going to be a walk and talk with nature, which would be packed with adventure. The participants should neither throw litters there nor do anything that would affect the natural environment. They will have to wear full sleeve clothes, suitable walking shoes and cap and also carry water bottles with them.”Some ancient inscriptions, though faded, have been discovered on some staircases that would be covered by the trekkers . “It will not be a mere trekking event on Sunday morning, rather the participants will get to see the inscriptions found on some staircases. Besides, from certain points on the trekking route, the participants will get a splendid bird’s eye view of the city and also take photographs simultaneously,” said V Chetan.The temple, dedicated to Krishna or Madhavswamy at Madhavdhara, is surrounded by hills and forests and around 12 km away from the heart of the city.
