Guntur: With political parties planning their strategies for the not-so-far election season, will private businesses be left behind? A Guntur-based automobile dealer has already started taking bookings for bespoke ‘campaign vehicles’.From the past three general elections, Jayalakshmi Designers has been supplying cars and open-top jeeps according to the needs of political parties and candidates. The local company keeps upgrading features in the campaign vehicles after taking feedback from the users. It has readied an “ultra-modern” campaign car ready for the next elections.Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Jayalakshmi Designers chief, M Naraiah Chowdary, said they have are using Isuzu vehicles for the current edition of the campaign car. “Since Isuzu launched its production in Sri City in AP, the vehicle cost is slightly less compared to its competitors as they enjoy tax benefits. In addition, the freight carrier model is more convenient for us to design poll campaign vehicles,” said Naraiah.The new model vehicle has sufficient space to fit both conventional and cordless mikes and speakers. The vehicle has footboards on both the sides. It also has a small dais which will be useful for candidates while addressing public meetings, or during a rally. The vehicle comes with a one kW generator.Atluri Siva Durga Prasad, an interior designer involved in product designing, said, “LED lamps have been fitted on all corners of the vehicle, which will help a candidate get visibility even at night. It will allow them to continue the campaign without much trouble even in areas which do not have much power supply.” The multi-purpose vehicle has a powerful AC, and provides a candidate and at least four others, including the driver, a comfortable ride.“We supplied vehicles to Congress and JD(U) candidates during the recent Karnataka assembly elections. We have provided vehicles to candidates from Orissa in the past,” said Naraiah Chowdary. He said that several leaders from the TDP and the YSRCP have already placed orders for the vehicles.
