VISAKHAPATNAM: The Metropolitan Sessions Court Judge S Nagarjuna convicted two ganja smugglers R Satya Rao and A Srinu to undergo imprisonment for 14 years on Wednesday.This is a second severe conviction in the ganja smuggling cases in the Visakha courts as a ganja smuggler S Nookaraju of Yetigairmmapeta village of Golugonda Mandal in Vizag district was convicted to 14-years jail term and a fine of Rs. One lakh a couple of days back by the same court and the judge.The Sessions court judge Nagarjuna also imposed the same fine amount of Rs. One lakh each to both convicted persons. In case of non-payment of the fine, the accused were asked to undergo imprisonment of one more year. Both the terms will run concurrently.According to Additional Public Prosecutor PVM Jayalakshmi, the accused in the ganja transportation case -Satya Rao and Srinu were arrested by the cops of Chodavaram Police Station near Gowripatnam on January 8 of 2013, while they were transporting around 475 kgs of ganja in a four-wheeler.The duo from Visakhapatnam district was transporting the green drug from Paderu surroundings to Vizag. Cops registered cases against the smugglers under sections 8 C read with 20 b (ii), (C), 25 of NDPS Act.
