more-in Close on the heels of a ganja smuggler being sentenced to 14-year jail, Metropolitan Session Court judge S. Nagarjuna on Wednesday awarded two more smugglers 14-year imprisonment, apart from imposing a fine of ?1 lakh each on them. Fine imposed In case of non-payment of the fine, the accused have to serve terms for one more year each. Both the terms will run concurrently, the court said while pronouncing the judgement. “The convicts are R. Satya Rao and A. Srinu. They were arrested by Chodavaram police near Gowripatnam on January 8, 2013, while transporting around 475 kg of ganja in a four-wheeler from Paderu to Vizag. They were convicted by the court on Wednesday. Both the convicts are natives of Visakhapatnam district,” said Additional Public Prosecutor P.V.M. Jayalakshmi. Both the convicts were booked under Sections 8Cr/w20b(ii),(C), 25 of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 and sent to remand. The judge pronounced the decree after the charges were proved during the trial. A few days ago, S. Nookaraju from Yetigairmmapeta village of Golugonda Mandal was convicted of smuggling ganja.
