It’s surprising to see the number of children participating in various activities as children usually wake up late on Sundays. It is conducted every Sunday on the RK beach road. “The atmosphere on the entire beach stretch is so active and energetic.

Visakhapatnam: Sunday mornings in the port city have become synonymous with Happy Streets . The beach road stretch, between 6 to 8 in the morning, becomes the epicentre of all action, with a lively cocktail of colours, smiles, music, camaraderie, fitness activities and fun games.TOI’s initiative in the city is into its 10th month now, but the excitement remains the same. If anything, it only seems to be growing each Sunday if one takes into account the swelling numbers of participants. Hundreds of people throng the stretch every Sunday to be greeted with pleasant surprises. Both young and old gather at the spot in the early hours of Sunday to enthusiastically participate in various activities organised on the beach stretch from the YMCA to Aqua sports complex.While the yoga session is the most sought-after for children and adults alike, it’s the Zumba workouts which draws the youths. Little children get busy playing regular games including archery, skating, cycling, shuttle, tug-of-war and basketball. “Children need platforms such as Happy Streets to showcase their talents. This helps in boosting their confidence levels,” said an excited Santhosh Kumar, father of two kids, and a regular at HS.P Meena said she has been participating in Happy Streets for three consecutive weeks now. “The atmosphere on the entire beach stretch is so active and energetic. It’s surprising to see the number of children participating in various activities as children usually wake up late on Sundays. Moreover, the climate was cool and foggy which added to the fun,” she added.The event is conducted by the Times of India group in association with Andhra Pradesh Tourism, and supported by the police department, district administration and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). It is conducted every Sunday on the RK beach road.
