- | Thursday | 6th September, 2018
VISAKHAPATNAM: While the groundwater was considerably recharged in many parts of the state, the groundwater table in Visakhapatnam district still remained on the lower side compared to September 2017.This was primarily attributed to the dry spell during the first two months of southwest monsoon in the district. The water levels in the district has now reached 7 metres range, which reflects a 0.6 metre dip compared to last September. In some areas of the district, the water level decreased by as much as 10 metres. Even though the district witnessed a good spell of rains in August, it could help the district only to some extent. For instance, the water level in Atchutapuram has now dropped to 22.3 m from 12.5 m in September 2018. The water level in Edatam near Payakaraopeta now stands at 13.3 m against 5.4 m last year.
