Visakhapatnam: Even after three months into the new academic year, there is still no clarity on the pattern of examinations for class X students this academic year in the state.Although there were reports of the government doing away with the 20% of internal marks in class X exams, there has been no official announcement till date. The students as well as the teachers are caught in a dilemma due to the impasse over the decision. A majority of them opine that revoking of internal marks system, as part of the continuous and comprehensive evaluation pattern, at least in class X, may ease the burden on students. The state government earlier constituted a three-member expert committee to draw some takeaways from the trends of 2018 class X results in June. But there is no clarity on the submission of the committee’s report.K Seshagiri Rao, principal, Sun School, said the project works have been consuming a lot of time of both students and teachers. “The students are forced to spend a lot of time on the project works under the CCE system. Taking advantage of the same, several private schools are awarding 100% of internal marks to their students, hampering the very purpose of the CCE system. There has been a manifold increase in the number of students securing 10 GPA after the introduction of the CCE system two years ago. For example, this year about 30,000 class X students got a 10 GPA compared to 18,225 students in 2016-17, 6,444 students in 2015-16 and 4,680 students in 2014-15. Even the pass percentage is now hovering around 92-95 per cent, much higher than the national average or the CBSE class X pass per cent, including 94.5% in 2017-18, 92% in 2016-17, 94.5% in 2015-16 and 91.4% in 2014-15.Andhra Pradesh Private Schools Association chairman K S N Murthy also demanded the government to reintroduce the old system of examinations in place of the existing CCE pattern.
