more-in Even as the basic amenities at the households of the marginalised sections of the society have improved, the same at the SC /ST dwellings are plagued by persisting inequalities, the ‘Young Lives India’ report has suggested. The report, which was prepared after a 15-year study undertaken in four countries Peru, Vietnam and Ethiopia, apart from India, was released by Human Resources Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao at the Platinum Jubilee Guest House of Andhra University here on Sunday. Giving an overview on the report, Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS), Hyderabad Director Prof. S. Galab, who is also the principal investigator for Young Lives in India said the wealth index of basic services such as housing of the marginalised sections of society have increased for cohort households. “However, the studies have revealed a gap between the households beloning to SCs, STs and other castes, with persisting inequalities.” Physical growth is not only central to healthy development of a child, but also supports good cognitive development. “Provision of social security to the poorest households is essential to address the persisting inequality ,” he pointed out.
