District Collector Pravin Kumar on Saturday inaugurated 320 houses constructed under the NTR Special Urban Housing Scheme at Alluri Sitarama Raju Nagar in Malkpapuram. Addressing a meeting on the occasion, Mr. Pravin Kumar said, of the 35,000 houses sanctioned so far, work began on 15,000 units. Mr. Pravin Kumar inaugurated a blood donation camp organised by the Housing Corporation employees on the occasion of Engineer’s Day, the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Mr. Naidu, who presided, said plans were on the anvil to construct 8,000 housing units in Visakhapatnam West constituency at the rate of 700 houses in each ward.

The houses were constructed in ‘G+3’ at a cost of ?16 crore. Addressing a meeting on the occasion, Mr. Pravin Kumar said, of the 35,000 houses sanctioned so far, work began on 15,000 units. In the next two to three years, one lakh houses would be constructed. However, with paucity of government land, housing could not be completed in time, he said. Once the land-pooling scheme was completed, construction would gain momentum, he said. Those who did not get houses under the scheme would get them in the units being constructed on the hill, he said. He congratulated Government whip P.G.V.R. Naidu for his efforts in getting housing to the eligible. Mr. Naidu, who presided, said plans were on the anvil to construct 8,000 housing units in Visakhapatnam West constituency at the rate of 700 houses in each ward. The camp was organised to meet the need for platelets after incidence of dengue in the city. Housing Corporation director Prasad and other employees participated.
