Heavy rains to lash AP-Odisha coast in next 3 days

There would be rough to very rough seas conditions over Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coast bordering districts during the period. Visakhapatnam: Heavy rains will pound the border areas of north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha in next three days.It has been forecast that the coastal parts of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram and even Vizag city will receive downpours. Fishermen were advised not to venture into the sea till further advice comes from the authorities concerned including Collectors of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam.The official sources said that the border areas like Battili in Srikakulam district, Pachipenta in Vizianagaram district have received moderate rains (nearly 40mm) on Monday. It is likely to concentrate into a depression and move west-northwestwards towards north Andhra Pradesh - south Odisha coasts during the subsequent 48 hours,” Nagaratna added.The impact of the system and heavy rainfall activity will begin from Tuesday night and go on till Wednesday.Under the influence of the system, heavy to very heavy rain falls are likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh. Collectors of these districts will be given a caution message from the state government by Tuesday, according to the reports from AP State Disaster Management.The rainfall, rough sea and strong wind activity along the coastal areas will begin on Wednesday and continue till Thursday or Friday, according to the preliminary predictions from India Meteorological Department (IMD).The IMD attributed the heavy downpour to a depression area which is expected to be forming over central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal by Wednesday.Speaking to TOI, the IMD director Dr K Nagaratna said that there would be a low-pressure system over Bay of Bengal near the north coastal AP and Odisha coast and chances are high for it to be formed into a depression.“The low pressure is very likely to hover over central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal by Tuesday.
