Cyclone Titli: Train services hit; several cancelled or rescheduled

HYDERABAD: Train services connecting the city with south eastern parts of the country have gone haywire as cyclone Titli wreaked havoc on the west central Bay of Bengal on Thursday. “We came to know after reaching the station that the Hyderabad-bound express has been cancelled for the day. With improvement in weather late in the afternoon, SCR officials decided to run six trains in the normal route, including Falaknuma Express, Coromandel Express, Tiruchirapalli Express and Yesvantpur Express. Commuters, who had planned their trips to the city from Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam and neighbouring areas, have been left in the lurch. “We have rescheduled Yesvantapur-Howrah Humsafar Express and its return pair.

Commuters, who had planned their trips to the city from Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam and neighbouring areas, have been left in the lurch. Same has happened to those who had planned tours to these regions for Dasara.South Central Railway (SCR) and East Coast Railway (ECoR) are trying to run the train services as per schedule but have cancelled and rescheduled some of them.On Thursday, several passengers were left stranded at Howrah station with the cancellation of East Coast Express. “We came to know after reaching the station that the Hyderabad-bound express has been cancelled for the day. Getting flight tickets, which are already sky-rocketing due to the festive rush, would be difficult now,” rued Jasjeet Singh.However, the other pair of East Coast express set off to Howrah at 12pm instead of its normal schedule of 9.50am from Hyderabad on Thursday. “We have rescheduled Yesvantapur-Howrah Humsafar Express and its return pair. The Howrah-Chennai Central Express and Shalimar-Nagercoil Gurudev Express had to be diverted via Kharagpur, Tatanagar, Bilaspur, Kazipet and Vijayawada,” said an SCR official.Meanwhile, the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation restored connection to Jagannathpur sub-station of railways after which trains started moving from Bhubaneswar to Brahmapur. With improvement in weather late in the afternoon, SCR officials decided to run six trains in the normal route, including Falaknuma Express, Coromandel Express, Tiruchirapalli Express and Yesvantpur Express.
