2 suspected Maoists arrested by Vizag rural cops

Visakhapatnam: Vizag rural police arrested two suspected Maoists, including a woman, in the Visakha agency area on Tuesday. The two were caught when the cops were checking vehicles between Paderu and G Madugula.The 45-year-old woman Maoist — identified as Annapurna, alias Pushpa, alias Padma, alias Suguna — is the wife of a special zonal committee level leader Nune Narasimha Reddy, alias Ganganna. But cultivation and transportation of ganja is illegal and against the law. She allegedly used to supplying ammunition and ration to the underground cadre. Whoever does it will face action,” Thakur said.

The man has been identified as L Simhachalam of Injari panchyat in Pedabayalu mandal.Visakha rural SP Rahul Dev Sharma said Annapurna joined the movement in 1988 and has 12 criminal cases pending in various courts in Guntur.Both were taken into custody after police recovered detonators and gelatine sticks from their possession.Meanwhile, DGP RP Thakur has urged Maoists to give up arms and contest elections to bring the changes they seek in society. Maintaining that there is no room for violence in a democratic society, he warned that anti-social elements and their activities would be curbed with a firm hand.The DGP was in the city to attend a blood donation camp on the occasion of commemoration day of police martyrs.He said security cover for people’s representatives has been enhanced following the Dumbriguda attack where Maoists killed the sitting and former MLAs of Araku.On ganja cultivation in Visakha agency areas, he said it’s a crime and would be considered as an anti-social activity. “We do not want to harass tribals. But cultivation and transportation of ganja is illegal and against the law. Whoever does it will face action,” Thakur said.
