Tirupati: The Bharatiya Janata Party found fault with the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams’ administration for going forward with filing a Rs 200 crore defamation suit against retired chief priest AV Ramana Deekshitulu and YSRC senior leader Vijaya Sai Reddy.BJP's official spokesperson, Samanchi Srinivas, who is also an advocate by profession, took strong exception to the manner in which the TTD administration was wasting public money received in the form of offerings made to Lord Venkateswara's coffers by lakhs of devotees across the globe.“In a bid to please CM Naidu, the TTD has initiated a defamation suit of Rs 100 crore each against former TTD chief priest AV Ramana Deekshitulu and YSRC leader Vijaya Sai Reddy. The TTD has paid Rs 2.04 crores towards court fees already pertaining to the case with reference - Tirupati OS NO. 264 of 2018 on the file of the 10th additional district judge, Tirupati. The matter is posted on November 13, for serving notices”, he pointed out.It may be recalled that in June earlier this year, the Law department of the TTD served notices to ousted chief priest Ramana Deekshitulu and Vijaya Sai Reddy after the duo levelled serious allegations against the TTD and Chandrababu Naidu. While Ramana Deekshitulu some jewels of Lord Venkateswara went missing, Vijaya Sai Reddy had alleged that the missing jewels of Lord Venkateswara were in the possession of the chief minister and that there were chances they might be smuggled out of the country if not recovered in time. And in a strong reaction, TTD had initiated defamation proceedings against Ramana Deekshitulu and Vijaya Sai Reddy in a bid to please the chief minister, alleged the BJP leader. “How can the TTD expect to recover Rs 100 crore from a retired priest? Is it really possible?”, he questioned. If the TTD loses the case it will lose Rs 2.04 crore paid as court fee, he added.
