While universities like Stanford are producing future leaders, we are limited to producing clerks. Visakhapatnam: Education should be fun and not a punishment, said chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. “We have to create a new way of learning and teaching. “Social and emotional learning enhances a child’s ability to be resilient in times of uncertainty, which the order of the day in the 21st century,” said Prof Duraiappah. “Education should no longer be stressful or frightening to students.

Visakhapatnam: Education should be fun and not a punishment, said chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He launched the three-day “Transforming Education for Humanity” (Tech) conference here on Thursday.Speaking on the occasion, Naidu said the evolution of technology has changed the definition of education from a plain blackboard classroom to now digital tools-based classrooms. “Education should no longer be stressful or frightening to students. While universities like Stanford are producing future leaders, we are limited to producing clerks. We should design our curriculums in a way that students learn leadership qualities, communication skills, life skills, team-building abilities and others in the classroom and not necessarily after joining a job,” said Naidu.Giving insights into the proposed Intelligent Hub for Digital Pedagogies, Naidu said they will allocate 50 acres for it. “We have to create a new way of learning and teaching. I hope the hub will change the future of education,” he said. Naidu said that as part of the fibre grid project, they will set up 25,000 hotspots across the state to provide people free internet facility.State HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said Tech 2018 has brought together global experts from 60 countries, including education ministers, scientists, data, legal and business experts.Director of Unesco MGIEP, Prof Anantha Duraiappah, said education needs to nurture not just the intellectual capacity, but also the emotional quotient of a child. “Social and emotional learning enhances a child’s ability to be resilient in times of uncertainty, which the order of the day in the 21st century,” said Prof Duraiappah.
