Ganja smuggler attempts to kill self inside the courtroom

Magistrate Nagarjuna convicted Appala Naidu and five others for 14 years imprisonment and one lakh rupees fine each in a ganja smuggling case. Sub-Inspector of Kothakota Police Station told the media that Appala Naidu attempted suicide after the conviction. Severely injured, Appala Naidu was admitted to KG Hospital in Vizag city where he is battling for life and his condition is said to be critical. Once the judgement was pronounced, the convict took out his pocket knife from his shirt and slit his throat.The magistrate and advocates looked dumbfounded by this sudden gesture. He came for the final hearing of the case on Monday.

Visakhapatnam: A 27-year-old Rajaan Appala Naidu of MK Patnam in Rolugunta mandal in Visakhapatnam district attempted suicide by slicing his throat in the court premises in Vizag district courts on Monday in front of the Metropolitan Session Judge.Nobody noticed that the accused had brought in a knife in the court premises. Magistrate Nagarjuna convicted Appala Naidu and five others for 14 years imprisonment and one lakh rupees fine each in a ganja smuggling case. A total of eight persons were involved in the ganja transportation case in which 292 kg of ganja was seized at Dondapudi Junction under the Kottakota Police station limits on October 30, 2016.Appala Naidu was released from the central jail on bail after few months of his arrest. He came for the final hearing of the case on Monday. Suspecting conviction, he allegedly brought a pocket knife, sources said. Once the judgement was pronounced, the convict took out his pocket knife from his shirt and slit his throat.The magistrate and advocates looked dumbfounded by this sudden gesture. The court hall was littered with blood. Severely injured, Appala Naidu was admitted to KG Hospital in Vizag city where he is battling for life and his condition is said to be critical.
