VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh , that has been reeling under deficient rainfall for the last few weeks may heave a sigh of relief from the situation as a low-pressure is brewing over the Bay of Bengal.The low pressure is expected to form over central parts of south Bay of Bengal by Monday and is likely to be strengthened thereafter, said a senior meteorologist from India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad Centre.AP has received only 65% of normal rainfall till date from June 1. According to AP State Development Planning Society (APSDPS), the state has received only 545.1mm of rainfall against the normal 837.9mm rainfall this year.Except Srikakulam and West Godavari districts, all 11 districts in the state have been facing deficient rainfall. South coastal districts like Nellore, Prakasam and Guntur also suffered from deficient rainfall.Even Visakhapatnam district received only 743.7mm of rainfall against the normal rainfall mark of 1006.7mm, which means just a meagre 74%.“The low-pressure system will mostly move in the north-west direction from the south Bay of Bengal towards coastal Andhra Pradesh. During the transit period, the coastal areas along the state are likely to get moderate to heavy rains. It is expected to happen this week. If it happens, the deficient rainfall conditions of the state will improve,” said an IMD official.
