Special buses, trains will ply to meet Sankranti-Pongal rush

VISAKHAPATNAM: The state owned AP state road transport corporation (APSRTC) and the India railways have geared up to meet the extra rush of passengers ahead of the Sankranti-Pongal next week.The railways is running eight special trains from Visakhapatnam to several key destinations during the festive period, while RTC’s Vizag unit has decided to run nearly 25 special bus services.G Suneel Kumar, senior divisional commercial manager, Waltair division, said “We will operate eight specials, including one for Araku valley, from the city during the Sankranti pongal to help tourists. “During the Sankranti feseason, the earnings go up to 1.5 crore per day and the footfall of passengers increases to 1.3 lakh from the existing 70,000 per day,” the officer said.APSRTC regional manager for Visakhapatnam G Sudesh Kumar said that they have started preparations for special buses from Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada , Hyderabad, Tirupati , Chennai and Bangalore.Both the departments will run special services keeping the transport requirement of the people who are settled in cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai in mind.
