VISAKHAPATNAM: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) authorities are set to come up with a lounge at platform no 8 of Visakhapatnam station where passengers will various refreshing facilities. The AP Tourism Authority declared it the best tourist friendly station in the state last year. The lounge that is set to be a first-of-its-kind on Indian Railways will include modern washroom, baby feeding room and comfortable seating arrangements.Railway passengers will have to pay nominal charges to get the facilities at the upcoming lounge, which will have a heritage look and be surrounded by greenery.The Waltair divisional railway manager (DRM), Mathur said, “The Visakhapatnam railway station bagged Safaigiri award last year to give commuters the best facilities. There is a lot of open space in platform no 8 and we are utilizing it by coming up with the lounge and tenders will be issued soon for its operation and management.”Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Visakh Refinery, came forward to set up a modern toilet block at the lounge under its corporate social responsibility at an estimated cost of Rs 49.5 lakh.Nearly 70,000 people commute through Visakhapatnam railway station daily and 40 per cent of them use the platform no 8 where the lounge is going to be built.
