Fire mishap at Vizag Steel no casualties reported

VISAKHAPATNAM: One of the tuyeres at blast furnace—3 in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant bursted at around 9am on Friday, resulting in a minor fire mishap, a statement from Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd, the corporate entity of the steel plant, said. The fire was doused immediately and the blast furnace-3 was shut down safely for further inspection and subsequent restarting, the statement said.The steel plant was the site of a major accident in June 2012, when 16 people were burnt alive in fire at a steel melt shop. A tuyere is a tube through which air is blown into a furnace.No one suffered any injuries and no damage occurred to the equipments.
