The management of the college tendered some paracetamol tablets to the student and advised him to take rest.The student went to his hometown in Anakapalle and complained of high fever on Oct 13. The doctor examined the student on Sept 28, prescribed some medicines but didn’t referr him to get a blood test done.Bhargawa complained of fever again on Oct 2.

Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam district consumer disputes redressal forum-I has directed a private college in Visakhapatnam to refund the fee taken, amounting to Rs 68,426 fee and pay Rs 50,000 compensation to a parent of the student of the college, who died of dengue due to the negligence of the management of the college.M Bhargawa Naidu, who secured grade A in Class-X (ICSE examinations), had joined the Chaitanya Educational Institutions at Boyapalem in Visakhapatnam for an intermediate course with exclusive IIT coaching in June 2016.Bhargawa Naidu’s father M Appalaswamy Naidu paid a fee Rs 1.65 lakh, which includes hostel fee, pocket money and other components to the college.In the course of the session, Bhargava showed exemplary improvement in his academics and secured the 18th rank in one of the JEE mains class tests. However, he complained that the hostel room that had been allotted to him was not properly maintained and mosquitoes had become a menace.Subsequently, Bhargawa Naidu was shifted to another room, however, the mosquito menace did not subside.The student’s father visited the hostel premises and complained to the management about the poor sanitary conditions. The management promised to keep the premises clean.On Sept 27, 2016, Bhargawa made a phone call to his father and informed that he was suffering from viral fever. He was shifted to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam, but did not survive and breathed his last on Oct 16.Doctors declared that Bhargawa had died of dengue as he had not received proper treatment in the initial stage of the fever.After learning that the student had passed away, the management of the college visited Naidu’s home and promised to return the fee and pay compensation. However, the management of the college did not return the tuition fee.The boy’s father, Appalaswamy, approached the consumer forum seeking compensation for his son’s demise due to the negligence of the college management. The management of the college dismissed the allegations of the boy’s father and denied payment.The forum, led by president CV Surya Bhaskaram and lady member KVR Maheswar, found that Bhargava had died due to negligence of the college as they did not provide proper treatment to him in the hostel.The forum has ordered the management of the college to pay Rs 68,426 along with Rs 50,000 as compensation the to parents of the student.
