Visakhapatnam: After rocking various Indian cities, Vizag’s only heavy metal band , ‘Against Evil’, is all set to enthral music lovers in Europe, including Germany and Switzerland in 16 gigs in August.If it was Frank Farian, the German record producer who made Boney M into a hugely successful band in the 1970s and 80s, the four-member band from the city seems to have found their own Farian, in the form of Doc Gator Records, which distributed their music in Germany, which in turn generated a German fan following. It is this fan following which will be funding Against Evil’s musical tour to Europe, including home-stay and transport.Even though the genre of heavy metal and hard rock music is not so popular in the port city, this award-winning music band is in demand in Europe and is going to perform through a unique fund-raising initiative.“Since it is difficult for an Indian band like ours to tour Europe logistically and financially, Doc Gator Records and a Facebook page called ‘Heavy Metal Fans’ came together for a crowd-funding campaign ‘Project Curry’ for our maiden tour to Europe. For fund-raising, followers of heavy metal fans page started auctioning signed CDs, T-shirts, posters, and vinyls,” said Sravan Chakravarthi, lead vocalist of Against Evil.Against Evil had released their first six-track album ‘Fatal Assault’ in July 2015 and in August 2018, they came up with their second nine-track album ‘All Hail the King’. The band members include — Shasank Venkat (lead guitarist), Siri Sri (vocals/bass), Sravan Chakravarthi (vocals/rhythm guitar) and Noble John (drummer).Elaborating on how they built a European fan-base, Chakravarthi said: “The renowned American guitarist Jeff Loomis had played a guitar solo in one of the tracks ‘Sentenced to Death’ in our second album. As a guest artist, he had agreed to play when we had requested him during a performance in Delhi where we had shared the stage with him. His worldwide followers were curious to know about ‘Against Evil’ since an internationally renowned artist had lent his music in our album.”“It then became easier for our album to find takers abroad. Secondly, all our latest releases with credits was put on a YouTube channel Nwothm Full Albums. They also mentioned about the provision to buy our music from Bandcamp,” he said. He said that the band uploaded its music and started marketing it through a platform called Bandcamp. Bandcamp helps artists without a record label deal, market their CDs, merchandise and digital versions of the music.
