Visakhapatnam district tops the list with maximum number of new voters

VISAKHAPATNAM: The district collector of Visakhapatnam, K Bhaskar, announced that the Visakhapatnam district topped the list in terms of number of new voters enlisted.The collector made the statement while announcing the list of total voters in the district, here on Monday, one day before the candidate nomination period begins.Addressing the media, the collector pointed that the total number of voters in the district number 34,61,217 while the number of new voters enlisted was 1,86,189.Regarding the schedule of the general election, the collector said, "The last date for nominations was March 25, while the last date for withdrawal of candidates being March 28. The polls will be held on April 11, from 7am to 6am in all the assembly constituencies other than Araku Valley and Pderu constituency, where the elections would be held from 7am to 4pm. "The collector further observed that a total 32,000 officials would be involved in the elections in the district apart from 10,000 police personnel, manning the 4,000 booths plus additional security.Regarding training to all the election staff, the collector added that they have all been trained and a mock voting drill was also conducted.Regarding the number of Form-7 applications received the collector announced that the total number was 70,000 out of which 80% have been rejected.
