HRF calls for justice for tribals killed in ‘unprovoked’ firing

Visakhapatnam: The Human Rights Forum (HRF) demanded the government take action against the Greyhound personnel as well as the CRPF responsible for the unprovoked and unilateral firing that led to the death of two tribal farmers in Visakhapatnam agency. The HRF members alleged there was no exchange of fire on that night and only unprovoked, one-sided firing by the police that led to the death of two tribals.In fact, the firing was not preceded by any warning. On being shot at by the police, Bhusahanam and Jamadhar died on the spot while the others escaped. It has also demanded an inquiry by an independent agency after registering a case under Section 302 of the IPC and other appropriate sections. It has demanded prosecuting the cops responsible for killing the tribals under Section 302 and other relevant sections of the law.The fact-finding team met with tribals, including Sidaari Rambabu and Koda Bonjubabu who escaped from the firing incident and the residents of Pedakodapalle, Buradamamidi, Mettaveedhi.

The government should adequately compensate the bereaved families. The HRF is now knocking on the doors of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, and the National and State Human Rights Commissions for justice.It may be recalled that two tribals – B Bhushanam and Sidaari Jamadhar — were allegedly killed in the exchange of fire at Buradamamidi in Pedakodapalli panchayat under Pedabayalu mandal on the night of March 15.The two-member HRF fact-finding team comprising AP and Telangana coordinating committee member VS Krishna and AP state general secretary K Sudha visited the spot of the incident on Tuesday and released a press note on Wednesday. It has demanded prosecuting the cops responsible for killing the tribals under Section 302 and other relevant sections of the law.The fact-finding team met with tribals, including Sidaari Rambabu and Koda Bonjubabu who escaped from the firing incident and the residents of Pedakodapalle, Buradamamidi, Mettaveedhi. The HRF members alleged there was no exchange of fire on that night and only unprovoked, one-sided firing by the police that led to the death of two tribals.In fact, the firing was not preceded by any warning. On that night, Bhushanam and Bonjubabu of Mettaveedhi, Jamadhar and Rambabu of Pedakodapalle set out for a hunt hoping to strike some game, mainly birds, a practice that is normal and fairly regular in tribal society, particularly in the dry summer months. On being shot at by the police, Bhusahanam and Jamadhar died on the spot while the others escaped.
