Bigger role for Navy owing tomaritime interests, says Lanba

Visakhapatnam: The responsibility of the Navy has been steadily growing along with India's expanding maritime interests, said Indian Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba.The nation is increasingly depending on the Navy for security, peace and prosperity of India's maritime areas or interests. To achieve this, the Indian Navy deploys the ships, submarines and aircraft across the globe effectively to safeguard national interests. To cater to these responsibilities, the Indian Navy is steadily inducting modern platforms with state-of-art weapons and sensors and also upgrading existing platforms with high technology systems and recruitments to improve combat capabilities.The Navy chief conferred gallantry and non-gallantry awards to 33 Navymen on behalf of the President of India. The Navy chief inspected a 50 men armed guard and reviewed the platoons of naval and DSC personnel drawn from various ships and establishment of the ENC.The Admiral thanked the family members of the award winners for their support to the service personnel in their performance of duty. Addressing the gathering at the Naval investiture ceremony at the Eastern Naval Command here on Thursday, Admiral Lanba said the Navy's frontline units have been able to achieve extended presence and operational reach because of sheer dedication and devotion to its personnel.
