While 1,200 cusecs is the inflow presently into it, 500 cusecs is being drawn for agriculture. The Visakhapatnam Industrial Water Supply Company is drawing 100 cusecs for industrial and domestic use in and around the city. Following rain in June levels in all reservoirs had gone up though not considerably. However, with consumption, and dry spells occurring the levels fell to pre-monsoon stage, sources said. Even the Mudasarlova reservoir that generally fills up after initial spells of rain is at 153.1 ft against a minimum drawing level of 152 feet ringing alarm bells. The Gambhiram reservoir has received no inflows. The main source of supply Yeleswaram reservoir also improved from 67.35 to 70 in June. But with use for agricultural operations and domestic and industrial needs it again fell to 69.3 m., it was learnt. But Rain during the last few days has improved the level to 70.8 m. Inflows are encouraging at 1200 cusecs. While 500 cusecs is being drawn for irrigation with farm operations gaining momentum after meeting GVMC needs another 600 cusecs is the surplus. The inflows are expected to continue for 4 to 5 days after rains. Rain in the catchment area may also contribute further improving the situation. Pumping from Yeleswaram reservoir has been continuing since March 31with water not flowing by gravity. If the Inflows continue and level reaches 71.5 m pumping can be stopped, sources said. With pumping stretching for more than three months now, VIWSCO has spent nearly ?10 crore on it.
