more-in City police appear to have achieved a major breakthrough in the murder case of businessman Vikram Dhamija. It is learnt that a supervisor or manager of the upscale apartment on the Beach Road, where the deceased was staying and was attacked by a six-member gang was taken into custody. It may be remembered that Vikram Dhamija, Chairman and Managing Director of Best Cranes, was stabbed multiple times in his apartment and he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in a corporate hospital on Tuesday. His wife and driver were also stabbed in the incident and they are out of danger. The incident happened between 3.30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Highly placed sources in the police said the manager who was earlier into chitfund business incurred heavy losses and had gone bankrupt. He later joined as manager or supervisor in the apartment. Sources said he got in touch with a gang in Jharkhand through a friend and hired them to threaten Vikram and extort some good amount of money. The gang had come to the city a couple of days ago conducted a recce and landed at Vikram’s house on Monday to threaten him and extort some money. But in the ensuing argument, as Vikram refused to pay, the assailants first stabbed his driver Janardhan who tried to run out of the flat and inform people and later as Vikram tried to intervene he was stabbed multiple times. The police have sent teams to arrest the accused. In the meantime, it is learnt that they have taken the Manager and his friend, who assisted in contacting the gang, into custody for questioning. Constable, SI suspended It is also learnt that a constable and an SI from Three Town Police station were taken to task for reaching the crime scene late and delayed in informing their superior officers about the gravity of the crime.
