City police gear up for Ganesh festivities

Visakhapatnam city police have launched a website to facilitate committees setting up Ganesh pandals for Vinayaka Chavithi, scheduled on August 25. Immersion of idolsThe police made it clear that immersion of Ganesh idols between Park Hotel and Naval Coastal Battery Junction will not be allowed. City Police Commissioner T Yoganand said permissions for the Ganesh pandals will be given from August 18, and the committees can use the website to upload their requests and also know about the rules and regulations. Seven areas have been identified for immersion of idols- Fishing Harbour, Slip-Way Jetty, Peda Waltair Jaalaripeta, Rushikonda, Appikonda, Bheemili Beach and Gosthani. Action will be taken by the pollution control board (PCB) authorities if the associations indulge in sound pollution.

Mr. Yoganand conducted a meeting with GVMC Commissioner M Hari Narayana, DCP's of two zones and ACP’s of all zones, here at the police conference hall, here on Wednesday. Mr. Yoganand said associations or committees interested to arrange Ganesh pandals could get permission online through registration through the website www.ganesh.vizag.co Mr. Yoganand also added that the committees or else could reach out to the respective ACP offices, where they will be setting up integrated control room with officials from the police department, fire, EPDCL for giving permissions to the associations for setting up pandals. The CP made it clear that no idols should be made of Plaster of Paris and only eco-friendly clay idols will be encouraged. Action will be taken by the pollution control board (PCB) authorities if the associations indulge in sound pollution. He also added that no association should collect money in the name of funds of pandals and they should also not charge any tickets for darshan. Mr. Yoganand also said if public find any vulgar dances or such programmes arranged by any associations, they could directly contact the police and action will be taken against the organisers.
