GVMC move to increase water tariff opposed

The CPI(M) has opposed the reported move by the GVMC to introduce a new commercial/institutional category and increase water tariff. Demanding withdrawal of the new categories and the move to increase the tariff, the CPI(M)leader wanted an all-party meeting to be convened on the issue. It was a steep increase from the present ?120 and ?160, he said. The new categories were an addition to the present household, semi-bulk and bulk connections. The civic body sought views of people on introducing the new category and collecting ?480 and ?740 a month respectively for 15 mm and 20 mm connections for the commercial category, CPI(M) city secretary B. Ganga Rao said in a statement here on Thursday.
