Government Nurses Association (APGNA), who are protesting for over a week demanding solution to their long-pending problems, threatened to launch a strike from Sept 25, if the government fails to respond to their pleas by then. The agitating Nurses, led by APGNA State president G. Bhagya Lakshmi and district leaders Y.M. Subhashini, T. Sujanamma, G.E. Esther, M. Indira and K. Varalakshmi apprised Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas of their problems when he visited the hospital on Wednesday. They told the Minister that while new blocks and specialities were being opened in the hospital, there was no proportionate increase in the number of nurses. The nurses were foregoing their legitimate privileges, with no additional nursing personnel sanctioned till date. They were being unduly overburdened due to acute shortage of staff and huge increase in the number of patients. The Health Minister asked the association leaders to meet him at Velagapudi on Sept 19 and assured them to strive to alleviate their problems after discussing the issues with union leaders, Principal Secretary (Health) Poonam Malakondaiah and other officials. He also promised to strive to solve their demands for promotions, appointments and other issues. KGH Superintendent G. Arjuna was present.
