Gitam launches M. Arch programme

Arch in sustainable architecture here on Thursday. He said there are around 800 green buildings so far constructed in India and now government is mandated to follow Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) norms of green buildings in the country. The university is offering this programme with the approval of Council of Architecture (COA) through Gitam School of Architecture from this academic year. He said sustainable architecture would help the smart cities. He said there are around 800 green buildings so far constructed in India and now government is mandated to follow Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) norms of green buildings in the country. Gitam University Vice-Chancellor MS Prasada Rao said 40 percent of carbon dioxide emissions are due to buildings and other construction activities and that can be reduced with sustainable architecture. Indian Institute of Architecture (IIA) Visakhapatnam centre chairman SLN Sastry stressed the need for research and innovation in the field of architecture.
