Former India all rounder Irfan Pathan has come out in support of his senior Sunil Gavaskar who recently faced criticism from several people including Anushka Sharma for his on-air comments on Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli.

During Kohli's batting, Gavaskar opened up on the RCB skipper's rustiness and casually pointed out that the 31-year-old is out of practice, having only played against wife Anushka Sharma's bowling during the COVID-19 lockdown at his Mumbai residence. Nonetheless, the former cricketer's usage of words became the talking point on social media on Friday (September 25).

Later on Friday, Sunil Gavaskar issued a clarification and stated that his comments on Anushka and Virat Kohli were taken out of context and he has now received some much-needed support from his fellow commentator Irfan Pathan.

At a time when the social media is flooded with messages criticising the former cricketer, Irfan Pathan took to Twitter to support Gavaskar, writing: “Always respect #SunilGavaskar sir always”
